2005 Year of the Rooster Gold Coin

2005 Year of the Rooster Gold Coin

The 2005 Year of the Rooster Gold Coin represented the tenth release within the Perth Mint’s Australian Lunar Series I. These coins depict the animals of the Chinese zodiac on annual releases of bullion and collector coins.

The reverse design for this year features a depiction of a rooster standing proudly and crowing at the rising sun visible in the background. Inscriptions include the Chinese character for Rooster which is positioned to the right and the “2005” date which is positioned to the left. At the base of the design is an indication of the gold weight and purity. The obverse design carries the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with inscriptions “Elizabeth II”, “Australia”, and the legal tender denomination, which varies for each weight.

Those born in the date range from February 9, 2005 to January 28, 2006 are said to have been born in the Year of the Rooster. These people are believed to have the characteristics of self-assurance and aggression. They can be outstanding performers and enjoy being the center of attention.

In bullion format, the Perth Mint offered one kilo, ten ounce, and two ounce sized gold coins without a mintage limit. The smaller weights ranging from one-twentieth ounce to one ounce gold coins were available with a specified maximum mintage. None of these managed to sell out of the full maximum. Numismatic products were also offered, which had their own established maximum production levels.
